Special attention will be paid to the hamstrings, hips, quads and lower back to relieve tension created from running, cycling, playing sports and being a city dweller. A great compliment to any training program (attention marathoners!), this class will enhance your performance, keep your joints safe and help to prevent muscle tears, increasing your overall athletic experience.
  • Forrest Yoga helps you connect to your core - getting strong and centered. It uses heat, deep breathing and vigorous sequences to sweat out toxins. The long holds in the pose progressions help you flush, oxygenate and rejuvenate every cell. Forrest Yoga cultivates a deep attention to the breath and the feelings in one’s own body. Classes allow for modifications based on your body, safely tailoring each poses to work best for you; particularly with physical and emotional injuries. Learning to work honestly at your edges, you develop effective tools to deal with fear and struggle. This makes it possible for integrity, self awareness and playful curiosity to become part of your daily life. Forrest Yoga does not require strength or flexibility; it only requires that you bring a willingness to learn how to feel authentically and respond honestly. This class is in a warm room, about 85-90 degrees.
  • Aerial/Swing Yoga Yoga using the support and enhancement of the silk swings. Achieve more length and depth with less strenuous effort, yet also challenge your core body strength. Feel the traction and opening of gravity as you hang or hold the swing to support your weight.
  • Aerial Arts will focus on the fundamentals of aerial acrobatics. We'll warm up with yoga, practice correct body positioning, create some familiarity with the sling, and learn basic aerial acrobatics skills. No previous experience with yoga or aerials is required. Bring your sense of humor and fun, and a desire to learn new things!
  • Hot Yoga Yoga in a heated room. We heat our room to 90/95 maximum, so it is a warm practice, but not overwhelming. Sweat, detox, and flow with this vinyasa-inspired dynamic practice.
  • Yoga: All Levels: Hatha/Vinyasa led yoga class. These classes are open to a wide range of practitioners, aimed towards a moderately vigorous level with modifications given for both beginning and more advanced students. The class structure will vary based on the instructor (read their descriptions). Classes may have music.
  • Basics/Beginners Yoga: a relaxing led practice incorporating the foundations of a solid yoga practice. Suitable for beginners, new students, and advanced practitioners looking to complement a more vigorous practice.
  • Yoga: Level 2/3 A more challenging and vigorous led class, focusing equally on strength and flexibility incorporating traditional yoga postures, inversions, and some dynamic movement. Some yoga experience recommended or general good health and fitness.
  • Community Class Similar to our All Levels Yoga, this is a smooth flow class that costs $6 as an offering to our community. Great for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike.
  • Self Practice: a space for students to come and develop their own style of practice under the guidance of an instructor. This is not a led class. Open practice is a time where restorative, ashtanga, movement exploration, Forrest, Yin, Vinyasa, Iyengar and Power Yoga can find a place to practice together at your own individual pace. Take this time to create a sequence that strengthens, heals, and awakens your own body. Some yoga experience and a personal practice is helpful, though the instructor is available for guidance and suggestions.
  • Restorative: Using bolsters, blankets, blocks and straps this soothing class supports a gentle body opening and a calm and meditative mind. Sessions include some breathing exersizes, deep relaxation and a nourishing sequence of supported postures to guide the body to a place of rejuvenation and centering. Great addition to a more vigorous practice or to rehabilitate from injury.
  • Meditation: time dedicated to serenity and stillness. All levels are welcome.
  • Pranayama: during pranayama, different breathing patterns will be given to draw in, build, and fill the body with energy.
  • Private Sessions: Some of our teachers offer private sessions. Please email the studio at "info [at] southbostonyoga.net". Semi-privates are available as well for one-on-one sessions during the morning open practice.
  • All Levels This label is given to all styles of classes that are welcoming to all levels of practitioner. Beginners and experienced students alike will be challenged according to their level. Modifications will be given to make poses more and less challening. Please advise the instructor of any injuries or special physical needs that you might have prior to the beginning of class.
  • Level 1 This marks our beginners-level classes. More instruction will be given according to the basics of the practice, modifications and props will be given to make sure all practitioners are comfortable in the class.
